Celebrating the life of

Alice L. Monson

March 01, 1926 - October 05, 2024

Alice L. Monson

Alice L. Monson (nee Larsen), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on October 5th at age 98 after enjoying a rich life.  Alice was born on March 1,1926 in Cass County Iowa to Joseph and Evelyn Larsen.   She was predeceased by her parents, husband Elmer, brother Dale and sisters Vallie and Bonnie.  She is survived by her sons Mark and Paul, grandsons William and Matthew, daughters-in-law Mary Monson and Joy Fulton and many nieces and nephews.

Alice was trained as a nurse at the Immanuel Hospital School of Nursing in Omaha, NE in preparation for service in WW II as part of the US Cadet Nursing Corp.  She graduated in 1947, after the end of the war, but practiced as a delivery room and surgical nurse in Atlantic, IA and DeKalb, IL.  Alice met her future husband, Elmer, through his sister during the war and they were married in Atlantic, Iowa on June 19, 1949.  Alice moved many times during her life, living in many states including Iowa, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Arizona and Georgia.

An avid card player, Alice enjoyed playing bridge for many years with her husband and friends.  She was an enthusiastic crossword puzzle solver and solved the daily puzzles in the newspaper for most of her adult life.  Alice's cooking skills were enjoyed by many, especially at holiday dinners and family gatherings.  Her legendary pie-baking was especially enjoyed.  Largely because of having played basketball in high school, she developed a life-long love of watching sports on television, including golf, baseball and basketball.  She became a long-time Arizona Wildcat basketball fan while living near Tucson, Arizona.

No matter the circumstances, Alice always maintained a deep faith and a positive outlook.   Alice will be remembered and cherished by those who knew her for her generous spirit, loving and accepting nature, positive attitude and work ethic.  She will be missed by many.

A private family service will be held at a future date.
